Temporary works
At ei, we pride ourselves with our depth of knowledge in managing all elements of Temporary Works design and assurance. From conception of the requirements, we work with our clients to determine the most suitable, safest and cost-effective solution. We can take the lead, liaising with specialist designers, system providers, lifting companies, through to the contractors installing the Temporary Works.
The rail sector has experienced a disproportionately high number of incidents and problems relating to Constructability and Temporary Works, some of which have had serious consequences. These include: injuries, operational disruption, cancellation of work and “last minute” re-working/re-design, which imports safety risk and contravenes the principles of CDM. We follow Network Rail’s Safe By Design ethos and develop Temporary Works strategies with safety at the very heart of the solution. ei also provide peer review support for complex and novel Temporary Works schemes.
“The Constructability Peer review work ei provided gave an alternative safety and buildability perspective, ensuring we delivered the best possible temporary solution”
Project Director - Taylor Woodrow
Planning
ei set about gaining a complete understanding of the detailed construction plan, constructability, construction integration and Temporary Works. These are a pre-requisite for the safe and smooth running of our support to projects as failure to do this imports unnecessary risk.
The “end game” is a thorough understanding of the site, identification of the assets that are affected and the asset owners, production of a design that can be constructed as easily as is practicable, a thorough understanding of the risks and a robust and workable plan – all put together by competent people as part of a joined up and collaborative approach.
ei adopt this approach to ensure compliance with the Network Rail Standard NR/L2/CIV/003 and other associated assurance standards.

Our Services
Engineering management is critical to ensure the safe and efficient operation of their assets and networks.
ei work closely with our clients to ensure that their engineering projects are delivered to the required standards, to the specific requirements, within budget and on time.
ei has developed a self assurance model supported by our bespoke competency assessment matrix. This ensures that ei can provide a formal authority to work for all members of our team.
We provide multidisciplinary engineering management expertise to rail, transportation, and infrastructure projects. Involving the latest in systems engineering thinking, tools and best practice, and apply it practically and pragmatically alongside our design and construction experience.
We successfully define and integrate the technical, contractual, programme, stakeholder and construction interfaces to ensure our projects deliver quality output, to budget and on time.
Innovation & Development
The rail industry is constantly evolving, and innovation, efficiency and development are essential to its continued success.
One of the key areas of innovation in recent years has been the use of 4D visualization and planning techniques.
4D visualization allows project teams to visualize the project and its progress over time, without having to undertake site walkouts, improving communication and collaboration between stakeholders.
